BENSENVILLE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
BUSINESS/COMMUNITY CLASSES:
The Bensenville Fire Protection District offers a fun class with a variety of options to meet your needs. You can pick what works best for you from the options below:
1. HEART SAVER FIRST AID/CPR
AUDIENCE: Designed for the average lay person (non-medical).

This class can be taught as either a one day complete class or it can be broken into single components.
A. The FIRST AID component teaches basics of first aid including legal liability, when to call for help and how to determine the problem. You will also learn how to initially treat some of the more common medical problems as well as common workplace injuries. There will be plenty of hands on practice time to ensure you understand and can perform what you just learned. This class lasts approximately 3.5 hours.
B. The CPR/AED component teaches CPR and choking for the adult, child and infant as well as the use of the AED (automatic external defibrillator). 3. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SKILLS TEST
AUDIENCE: Healthcare provider, Heartsaver AED/CPR and Heartsaver First Aid.
COURSE COVERS: The American Heart Association has added online renewal programs. These programs are designed to allow the student to take an online, move at your own pace, renewal class and take a written test. Upon completion of the online test, students must then take a skills test for proficiency before they can receive a new card. This class can be beneficial to the student with a hectic schedule that cannot commit to a 4-5 hour class session.
The Bensenville Fire Protection District CPR division currently provides skills testing for the Healthcare Provider, Heartsaver CPR/AED and Heartsaver First Aid.
In order to participate in this option, students must go to the American Heart Association web site at www.americanheart.org and sign up for the online renewal class. Upon completion of the online class, students must print a certificate of completion. Students must then call the fire station to set up a time to take their skills test.
IMPORTANT: Students must have a current, un-expired provider card and the certificate of completion from the online class, in order to be skills tested.
These documents must be brought the day of the skills test.
COST: $15 payable at the time of testing.
*This cost is above any cost for the online portion of the class.
The skills test will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Students must understand that when you arrive to take the skills test, you will be given an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, however, once the testing starts, you will be expected to perform the skills without error or coaching.
Upon successful completion of the skills test, the student will be issued a new card.
