TOP THIRTEEN FIRE SAFETY TIPS

Smoke alarms save lives – install and maintain them.  Check your batteries twice a year during daylight savings time. After 10 years, replace battery operated smoke alarms with new smoke alarms.

Smoking and drinking are a lethal combination. Smoking carelessness is a leading cause of fire. Don’t empty ashtrays into the trash.

Keep matches, lighters, and candles away from children.

Be careful with candles. Don’t leave them unattended. Never sleep or nap with candles burning.

Remove Electrical cords from under rugs and behind radiators. Never nail or staple the cords to walls or molding.

Don’t overload outlets and extension cords.

Never put a portable space heater within 3 feet of drapes, furniture, bedding or other flammable materials.

Do not store flammable liquids near any heating source. Store them into a safe fireproof storage container.

Remove all cloths, paper or flammable material 3 feet away from the hot water heater and furnace.

Early notifications can make all the difference between life and death – in case of fire or any medical emergencies call 911.
